This presentation will address the issue of school can't, also known as school refusal, in dyslexic children. It will start by defining school can't and providing an overview of how dyslexia can impact school attendance. Distinguishing school can't from general anxiety is crucial, and this can be done by identifying key differences in symptoms and behaviours, supported by case studies or examples. Working with your child's school is an important step in addressing school can't. Initial steps include meeting with school staff to discuss the issue and developing a collaborative plan that may involve flexible schedules and alternative assessments. For some children, alternative pathways for education, such as homeschooling, or online education programs may be more suitable. The presentation will provide information on these options and conclude with Q&A session will follow to address any questions or concerns from the audience.
