Understanding Specific Learning Disorders: Supporting Students with Learning Difficulties

Speld Qld is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to support people experiencing learning difficulties. It is estimated that between 10% and 16% of Australians experience a Specific Learning Disorder (SLD), with impairments in reading, writing and/or mathematics. Speld’s free advisory line support parents and educators on how to support students with learning difficulties. Speld also offers professional development in literacy interventions, a library of resources of members, a Kindy Inclusion Service, as well as assessments by psychologists and speech pathologists.

Presented by education advisors and psychologists from Speld Qld.
This professional development sessions aims to:

• Increase understanding of learning disabilities, particularly dyslexia
• Provide knowledge of evidence-based strategies to support diverse learners
• Increase understanding of the Specific Learning Disorder diagnostic process
• Provide information about the benefits of a psychoeducational or learning assessment

This session would be of interest to teachers and learning support staff who work with students with learning difficulties.
