Books from Douglas’ is a fun, engaging part of the Kindy Inclusion Service. ‘Books from Douglas’ is a great way to integrate literacy and language skills into your program and build a love of reading with your children.
Douglas is a much loved member of the Speld Kindy Inclusion Service team. Douglas the Bear loves books and wants to share books with your Kindy from the Speld Kindy library.
Would your Kindy kids like to borrow and receive fabulous picture books in the mail, delivered to your service? We will send you two ‘lucky dip’ picture books to borrow and share with your kindy children. Each book will include teaching notes about building phonological awareness and vocabulary development. They will arrive in an Australia Post bag to open together. There will also be another post bag inside to return the books to Douglas for free.
Douglas loves receiving mail too! You can also send letters, pictures and drawings to Douglas about the books you’ve read together.
Douglas is always seeking new adventures and loves sharing his adventures with Kindys.
These simple stories have been created by our Kindy Inclusion Team for educators to read and share with their kindy children.
When reading the stories to children, educators may support children to predict what may happen in the story or make a personal connection to the text. Eg. Douglas enjoyed collecting shells at the beach. Have you been to the beach? What do you like doing at the beach?
These books are created using Book Creator. Book Creator is easy for educators and children to use. It can be very inclusive as it offers the option for voice recording, speech to text and a ‘read to’ feature. Book Creator is one of many platforms that can be used to support children create books.
