Word Origins is an exciting, explicit year 3 to 6 spelling and word study program, designed to follow any high-quality early primary phonics program. The daily lessons focus on multiple layers of word knowledge, including orthography, morphology, semantics and etymology.

The workshop will introduce the design, scope and sequence, and materials utilised in the program and participants will gain an understanding of the structure and delivery of the detailed lesson plans, including daily reviews. The interpretation of assessment data, and the use of program resources will also be explored.

Developed by DSF Literacy and Clinical Services, the workshop is aimed at teachers of students in mid/upper primary school (including whole-class and remediation settings), and other professionals interested in delivering a comprehensive, evidence-informed spelling and word study program.

How to register:

1. Online: Register to book and pay online. Enter Attendee name and email in billing details.
(Online purchase is currently limited to one ticket at a time. Instant confirmation but please allow 2 business days for your Tax Invoice to be emailed)

2. Phone: Please call our office during business hours (8.30am – 3.30pm) to register and pay over the phone.

Registration closes 28 May 2026 (or earlier if sold out), as venue/catering bookings need to be confirmed at least one week prior to course start date.

Important Notes

1. Payment is required at the time of booking to confirm your registration and is non-refundable.
2. Changes requested within 7 days of start date are not able to be made, as course details are confirmed with venue/trainer.
3. If you are unable to attend, you may:
   3.a. Opt for a Credit Note for a future course. 14 days notice is required.
   3.b. Transfer your ticket to another person. 7 days notice required.
4. Speld Qld reserves the right to cancel or reschedule an event if minimum numbers (as determined by us) are not met, or if the presenter is unable to attend. You may choose to transfer to the new event, send another attendee in your place or receive a refund.
