Join us in Rockhampton on 8 December 2026 for Word Origins, an evidence-informed spelling and word study program designed for students in Years 3-6 and beyond. Developed by DSF Literacy and Clinical Services (https://dsf.net.au/our-services/workshops-and-events/word-origins), this comprehensive literacy program extends learning beyond phonics by explicitly teaching the layers of word knowledge that support strong reading, spelling and vocabulary development.

Word Origins integrates orthography, morphology, semantics and etymology to help educators deliver effective, structured literacy instruction. Suitable for classroom teachers, intervention specialists and literacy support professionals, the program provides a clear pathway for developing students' spelling accuracy, vocabulary knowledge and reading comprehension.

During this full-day professional learning workshop, participants will explore the program's design, scope and sequence, lesson structure, assessment processes and teaching resources. Practical guidance will be provided on implementing the program in both whole-class and intervention settings.
