I am a specialist literacy teacher with over 25 years of experience supporting students to develop strong reading, spelling and writing skills. I provide personalised one-to-one tuition tailored to each student’s individual learning needs. I am passionate about building confidence, strengthening foundational literacy skills, and helping students overcome challenges so they can reach their full potential. I believe that a supportive and encouraging approach creates a positive learning environment where students feel capable, motivated, and proud of their progress.

A structured and explicit approach to the teaching of reading (including comprehension) and writing (including spelling) is used in one-to-one sessions focussing on phonemic and phonological awareness, letter-sound correspondence, blending and segmenting for fluent reading, reading comprehension, spelling and writing.

Heidi is a Literacy Intervention Specialist working with students from Prep to Year 10. She has extensive experience supporting learners with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and related learning challenges. Her approach is calm, structured, and strengths‑focused, helping students build confidence and independence. Heidi also provides high‑school study skills and flexible online support.

Programs are highly effective for, but not limited to, children with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and speech and language disorders. Ideal for Speld members and children with provisional diagnosis. Tailored programs use direct, explicit teaching to address specific needs and improve learning outcomes, especially when whole-class methods haven't been effective. Sessions are held in a home studio in Carina before, during and after school hours.
Use the online option or 'online' location to search for online teachers
Have you considered an online specialist? Students can access the expertise of a Specialist Teacher in a private, one-to-one lesson with no required travel, comfort of own home and less distractions. Teachers who deliver lessons in this way typically specialise in this model of instruction and do so in multisensory and dynamic ways that achieve comparable results in literacy and mathematics. I’m a Primary Speld Specialist Teacher based in Holland Park, offering in-person, one-to-one, forty minute sessions. Lessons use the evidence-based Sounds-Write program, with a focus on reading, writing and spelling, as well as support for fluency, comprehension and confidence building.
